Congratulations to Ashley who was selected for the All-State Symphonic band, and to Emmanuel and Adrian for being selected for the All-State Concert Band!
Students from across the state who are selected for the All Regional Orchestras and All District Bands are eligible to audition for the All Virginia Band and Orchestra. The audition consists of three parts:
- Major Scales & Chromatic — Each performer plays two of their instrument’s major scales, along with a chromatic scale the full range of their instrument.
- Prepared Étude — Auditioners receive a short étude ahead of time that they can rehearse prior to the audition, then perform it during the audition.
- Sightreading — Students are then given a short selection they haven’t seen before and are asked to perform it by sight.
The ensemble only contains around 100 members, so selection is a fantastic achievement.
